30 Day Hold of Funds on Amazon Sellers Account

Recently I was hit with quite a surprise from my Amazon sellers account. They are actually holding my funds as they conduct a review of my sellers account and my funds will be reserved in my Amazon sellers account for up to 30 days. This is all according to the e-mail that they sent to me. They also state that I have done nothing wrong and that this action is taken regularly on marketplace selling accounts across the Amazon platform, particularly where sales volumes or inventory levels are not supported by sufficient buyer feedback or established sales history.

First off let it be known that I am a new seller on Amazon. I am not new to selling online, as I sell at many other websites. I opened up my Amazon selling account on January 7th, 2010 and began selling only 3 items. I was really shocked at the results on Amazon as during the first two weeks I had made 25 sales, not bad at all for only selling 3 items. I really thought highly of Amazon and thought to myself what great results I had gotten and thought about listing lots of items.

Then I received the e-mail from Amazon saying that they will be holding my funds for 30 days. I want to add here that in Amazon's e-mail they state that by me providing the following, it will expedite my review from them.

1. Tracking numbers of items shipped with corresponding Amazon.com order numbers
2. Current retail or online sales channels including links to selling pages
3. Detailed explanation of your business including your source of inventory
4. Amount of inventory you plan to list for sale on Amazon.com and availability of items for delivery

The tracking numbers I did not mind sending, which I did when I wrote back to them.

The current online channels linking to the amazon selling pages i did not care about because I did not have any.

Now for their third request; my source of inventory? This is getting a little into my personal business isn't it? Can anyone tell me why in the hell I would give Amazon my sources of inventory? Could it be that Amazon might find a product they like that I sell and contact my inventory sources and buy it themselves and sell it at a way lower price than I can? Surely Amazon would be able to get a better deal than me because they would be able to buy in larger quantities than I can. Besides that, it is just none of their damn business where I get my inventory. As long as I am not selling illegal or stolen items, Amazon has no business asking me for my inventory sources and with my e-mail I sent to them, I let them know that.

Their fourth question I got a laugh off of because I was really planning to list a lot of items for sale on Amazon but after their holding of my money stunt, I'm done with them.

After e-mailing them I continued to take orders from Amazon until my inventory of those 3 items ran out. I received 30 more orders after they placed the hold on my funds and had to pay the shipping costs straight out of my pocket. I'm no rich man who can afford this and the whole reason that i wrote this post is to announce to everyone how Amazon sucks. They are holding $1,500.00 of my money and it has me wondering if this little stunt by them is even legal. At least if I had known that they would do this I would have been better prepared for it and had some back up funds available for all of my expenses.

If any representative from Amazon ever reads this just know that your business practises are not wise at all. I know, Amazon doesn't need me and is a very successful company but you would be so much more successful if you did not pull little fraudulent stunts like this. I could understand if a seller was getting lots of complaints and negative feedback, but to just hold someones money because not enough buyers are leaving feedback is simply ridiculous. Do you realize that my profits from the money that I make from my sales goes back into my business for shipping costs and to buy new inventory?

After reading a few other post floating around the Internet I have learned that I am not the only one that they have done this to and that it is very common. This still does not make it right! I could understand holding a small percentage of a sellers funds just in case any A-Z claims are made and money needs to be refunded but to hold the whole thing is just straight out robbery. I have read post on the Internet that Amazon was holding some sellers funds in the amount of $10,000.00, another for $5,000.00, and so on. We all should know what is going on here. Amazon actually knows how to make money and it's not from the Amazon fee that they charge when we make a sale. Can anyone imagine how much money Amazon is holding from all of its sellers at any given time? I'm sure its millions and millions and millions of dollars! We all know that when you have big money like that, you actually earn some big time money when the interest is compounded. Amazon is actually making money off of all us by holding our money from us and they use the excuse that they have to review our sellers performance! Even us sellers who have had no complaints from any of our customers or any negative feedback. If Amazon was really conducting a review, they wouldn't be making money off of our money. Maybe if they paid us the interest that they have earned off of it we would not complain about the 30 day review of our selling account. If anyone has the right to earn money off of my money it is me! Not Amazon!

I'm looking forward to receiving my money in late February but after reading other post on the web I'm scared I may not even get it. I've read post everywhere how after the 30 day review Amazon conducts, they slap on a 90 day hold to many. If this happens, this thing is going to court. My advice to anyone who is thinking about selling on Amazon is just don't do it. There are many better alternatives to Amazon and you will find out about many that I will write about here on this blog. I will keep my readers updated on how this all goes.

I AGREE WITH THIS SELLER THEY SHOULD NOT BE HOLDING THEIR MONEY..IF THEY DON'T DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS AND SOON I WILL NOT BE BUYING THINGS OFF THAT SITE AGAIN... TO THINK I THOUGHT THAT AMAZON WAS A GOOD SITE UP UNTIL THIS POINT... I THINK IF US THE BUYERS ARE PLEASED WITH THE SELLERS AND GIVE GOOD FEEDBACKS THEN PAY THEM.. (WE ALL HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER IN ORDER TO MAKE THIS WORK PEOPLE)...

I am in the same Boat. Amazon has a hold on my $1,500 for 25 days now. I have all 5 star positive feedback. I sold 3 items in one night and the next morning BOOM - "I'm Suspended" F that man. I went through the procedures, spoke with all customers, shipped out all items promptly, received positive feedback, yet still I'm stuck with my money in their hold. Made me so mad I decided call them everyday and ask about the status. Same answer everyday though, " You have blank days until your review is up"
I call them multiple times during the day and put THEM ON HOLD and make sure my $1,500 x .0x interest is being used by only me!

If you feel as if you money is being held fraudulently then call them let them know every f'in day of every f'in hour and complain. Or just put them on hold like I do and call back when they can't hold any longer.

BBB rating is based on 16 factors. Get the details about the factors considered.

Factors that raised Amazon.com's rating include:
Length of time business has been operating.
Complaint volume filed with BBB for business of this size.
Response to 4109 complaint(s) filed against business.
Resolution of complaint(s) filed against business.
BBB has sufficient background information on this business.

On June 13, 2012, BBB recognized a pattern of complaints from consumers regarding sales practice issues. Consumers claim once their accounts are closed, the company does not release funds within the dates specified, or funds are held indefinitely. Consumers further allege the company does not properly follow A-to-Z Guarantee Protection rules or policies. Consumers claim when they try to contact Amazon.com regarding these issues, the company becomes unresponsive.

On August 13, 2009, BBB began receiving a pattern of complaints from consumers regarding issues with Amazon.com's Kindle. Consumers allege when they purchase the product, it is either defective upon purchase or becomes defective shortly before or after the 12-month warranty period ends. Consumers claim when they contact Amazon.com to request a new Kindle, the company says another one can be purchased at a discounted rate. Consumers further allege the replacement Kindle has no warranty, and they must pay full price for another replacement if their second Kindle becomes defective.

File your claim with BBB

There are thousands that already have just like I have due to my seller account being held in the same manner after 3 items I sold successfully!

Howdy great website! Does running a blog similar to this require a great deal of work?

I have virtually no knowledge of computer programming however
I had been hoping to start my own blog soon. Anyways, if you have any suggestions or techniques for new
blog owners please share. I understand this is off topic however
I just wanted to ask. Many thanks!
